The First Hits Its First

We’re still reeling from all the food and festivities from our first anniversary in September and we’re still at it. Time does really fly by so fast when you’re having fun. And food, of course! Our anniversary month was marked by individual vendor promos on top of our own.  From free drinks to price-offs, treats were flowing from our grateful vendors to our eager customers.

Celebrating with us were our partners Solane, Globe Telecom, Uber and Johnson & Johnson. The first 250 people who applied the code SUGBOMERCADOTURNS1 got PHP20 off their next ride on Uber. Johnson & Johnson gave out free samples of the new Listerine Zero with less intense taste and made other Listerine variants and products available at a discounted price at their onsite booth.

Love begets love and we gave back to all of you for making us #YourWeekendFoodMarket. As a little thank you for your continuous patronage and support on our first year, we gave away free softdrinks to the first 200 guests daily all throughout our anniversary weekend from September 29-October 1.

We also held various hotly contested food challenges where guests gamely joined to win GC’s and hefty cash prizes. What’s more, all contestants got to enjoy free food!

Guests tried their gelato-scooping skills in the Sheldon’s Gelato Stacking and Eating contest! Pre-registered and walk-in contestants stacked three-flavors, gelato rosa-style and finished it right after! The fastest to finish won a tub of Sheldon’s Gelato and cash from Sugbo Mercado.

The games went a notch higher for 21 Dubbs Chicken Wings Eating Contest where an initial five contestants chowed down on “mildly” spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings. The top three went on to a final round of Chili Wings with the fastest albeit terribly teary-eyed guy to finish taking home 21 Dubbs GC’s and cash courtesy of Sugbo Mercado.

Another two-level competition was done for Kuzina Guadalupe’s Lechon Eating Contest. The qualifying round had the contestants plowing through their Gutom Meal: 100 grams of spicy lechon belly plus three pieces of puso, and the top three polishing off their Big Gutom Meal: 150 grams of spicy lechon belly plus five pieces of puso. The winner took home a kilo of Kuzina Gualdalupe’s Spicy Lechon Belly, a certificate and cash from Sugbo Mercado.

Butterbean went from onsite to online with their Butterbean Creations DIY Ice Cream Bar decorating contest. Guests went at their ice cream bars with an assortment of toppings, dips and drizzles, took photos to upload to Instagram with the most likes getting the winner a GC from Butterbean.

Our resident bands serenaded the dining crowd all throughout. We have yet to announce our winners for our selfie and groufie promos so please stay tuned.

Special thanks to @delizcakesandpastries for our anniversary cupcakes and this cookie shot tower! So Deliz-cious!

We’ve been so blessed by crowd reception on our first year. We’re also very proud to be recognized by the Department of Tourism and the Department of Trade and Industry as the only weekend food market in Cebu.

We’re already breaching the second quarter of operations for our second location, #SugboMercadoCBP. We’ve moved up the block to a bigger and better corner lot there, too. Our third expansion, #SugboMercadoSRP, is already peeking over the horizon and scheduled to open by November.  Our flagship location is also set to expand another five hundred square meters into the interior to host the Sugbo Mercado Holiday Haven – a Holiday Bazaar spanning November and December. We’re not stopping there as we still have a fourth expansion scheduled for the North by the end of the year.

See you at #YourWeekendFoodMarket!
